Guess who is exactly the kind of douche that would go out and buy an iPhone the first day it’s released, even though his current service provider is Sprint?
Yeah, me.
But it should be known: I did not wait in line. Somehow that makes it almost okay to me.
I went to the Apple Store at the Ala Moana mall here in Honolulu at about 9pm yesterday. It was kind of wild in there, but I got in and out with my 8GB iPhone in under 10 minutes, easy.
And honestly, I was reluctant to buy the damn thing in the first place. For real. Amy had to pretty much coax me into going to get it.
Among the reasons for my reluctance: the price. What kind of self-indulgent prick buys a $600 cell phone to replace a $500 cell phone?
Oh, yeah. Palm Treo 650 for sale.
Second, as I already told you, my family and I have Sprint service. The iPhone only works with AT&T.
So now I have Sprint and AT&T.
But even if geeky gadget sites like Gizmodo are calling it the Jesus Phone, I’m not sure it was sensible to spend all that cash and commit to 2 years with AT&T.
And the worst part for me is feeling like one of those dicks who took two days off work to stand in line at the mall to be the first person in their time zone to activate their iPhone so they can brag about it at their weekly geek meeting.
To reiterate: I did not stand in line. At all.
And in the end I think I’ll be able to deal with it. The damn thing is even cooler than it looks on TV.
I’m late for my geek meeting.
