Sometimes you want more desktop space, but you want to violently take it, rather than clicking politely. That’s what the SmackBook mod is for.
Want to try it? It’s pretty easy.
First go get the files you need:
AMS Tracker (Downloads are from the author’s site only, at his request, or I would have posted it here for you.)
and the patched Desktop Manager software.
Dump the Desktop Manager app into your Applications folder. Run it.
Drag the AMS Tracker file from the AMS Tracker folder into the Smackbook folder, which you want on your desktop. Now you should have the Smackbook folder, with that AMS Tracker file inside it, on your desktop and the Desktop manager software running.
Last step: Open OS X’s Terminal (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and type the following:
cd /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Desktop/smackbook
Then hit return.
Now type the following:
perl smackbook.pl
Then hit return.
Your terminal should return “AMS hardware present and initialized”
Now smack your bitch up. Note: closing the Terminal shuts the smackage off.
Change from the standard flash transition to something you like better in Desktop Manager’s preferences, if you like.
Hey, thanks a lot for the help with smackbook but I’ve got a problem. I have messed up the preferences of Desktop Manager. Now when I run it, it seems to run in the background so there’s no way for me to set the preferences back. I have tried to delete Desktop Manager and reinstall it, but it didn’t do the trick. Please help? It would be nice to get a response through e-mail.
